The market data backs up the instinct. Games with strong loop mechanics consistently outperform their peers in long-term player retention — the metric that matters most in an era where the competition for attention is fiercer than ever. A game that keeps players coming back for 200 hours is worth more in reviews, word-of-mouth, and community longevity than a 15-hour linear experience, no matter how polished.
