Trans-resveratrol powder was found to be stable under "accelerated stability" conditions of 75% humidity and 40 °C in the presence of air. Formal chemical name (IUPAC name) of resveratrol is E-5-(4-hydroxystyryl)benzene-1,3-diol. The chemical structure of resveratrol (trans-3,5,4′-trihydroxystilbene) is identified in two isomeric forms, cis- and trans-resveratrol (Figure 1). Among these families, Dipterocarpaceae, containing 50 resveratrol’s, accounts for the majority, being involved 7 Dipterocarpaceae genera, including Vatica, Vateria, Shorea, Hopea, Neobalanocarpus, Dipterocarpus and Dryobalanops .
However, they found a better sperm chromatin quality in the RSV treated group than in the control one, although this effect was more evident before freezing rather than after, likely due to the increased ROS production in the last condition. Specifically, the samples were obtained by 10 normozoospermic men and 10 asthenozoospermic patients. In 2020, the Iranian group of Mohammadzadeh and his collaborators published a study that tested the post-thawing effect of RSV directly on spermatozoa separated using the swim-up method . The authors hypothesized that stimulation of AMPK activity by RSV could stabilize the transcripts tested in this study by improving the interaction among mRNAs, making mRNA molecules more resistant to cryopreservation. Opposite results were obtained with Compound C. Therefore, the authors hypothesized that RSV-induced improvement of cryopreserved sperm functions could be mediated through activation of AMPK. The authors showed that RSV significantly increased AMPK phosphorylation and MMP, whereas it decreased ROS and apoptosis-like changes in frozen-thawed spermatozoa. Shabani Nashtaei and co-authors reported that AMPK is expressed in human fresh spermatozoa and it is mainly localized in the post-equatorial region of the sperm head and all along the entire flagellum.

Therefore, high resveratrol intakes even in through form of supplements with additional medications could potentially reduce drugs metabolic clearance that undergo extensive first-pass CYP3A4 metabolism, hence increasing both bioavailability and toxicity risk of these drugs. Resveratrol has been reported to inhibit CYP3A4 activity, in vitro and in healthy volunteers . Studies on steady-state pharmacokinetics and tolerability of 2000 mg trans-resveratrol, administered twice daily with food, quercetin and alcohol (ethanol) showed that trans-resveratrol was well-tolerated by healthy subjects, although diarrhea was frequently observed .
Thirty females with PCOs were given resveratrol supplements for three months. The University of California claims that resveratrol is one of the best nutritional supplements, which can normalize hormonal imbalance in PCOs. Females suffering from PCOs have high levels of androgen hormones, especially testosterone than average.
